I’m the Director of Barker Planning which I established in 2013 and I have 20 years of extensive planning experience.
Barker Planning operates throughout New Zealand working for a range of private clients, local authorities and central government.
Since establishing Barker Planning I have consulted to a wide range of clients including:
|-||Businesses and individuals - providing planning advice and preparing resource consent applications and other applications such as Certificates of Compliance, submissions, expert evidence and attending hearings;|
|-||Local Councils - providing policy and planning advice, including the Selwyn District Council in relation to their current District Plan Review, and the Canterbury Regional Council; and|
|-||Central Government - providing advice with respect to earthquake recovery planning and regeneration, and in particular the Christchurch Replacement District Plan. This particular role required the provision of policy advice, expert evidence and attendance at hearings as well as a role in co-ordinating the involvement of multiple government departments in the District Plan Review.|
Prior to establishing Barker Planning I was a Senior Policy Analyst for the Ministry for the Environment where I was involved in Resource Management Act (RMA) best practice development and advice and resource management policy development. A highlight of this role was the opportunity to work on earthquake recovery initiatives.
I have also enjoyed working for a number of resource management consultancies on a diverse range of projects from the early planning stages to their construction and operation. These roles included working with individual clients on land use development and subdivision projects and with larger companies and organisations. Some of the larger development projects I’ve worked on include state highway roading infrastructure, telecommunication installations, petroleum installations and removals, dairy factories, residential subdivisions, childcare centres, and retail and hospitality developments. I also have district and city council experience from time spent working at Franklin District (prior to amalgamation with Auckland City) and Auckland and Wellington City Council’s in resource consenting. I especially value the practical knowledge and experience I gained working at these local councils.
Outside of work I enjoy sports, travelling and spending time with my family. I grew up in Ngatea on the Hauraki Plains and now divide my time between our home in Christchurch, Auckland where my family lives, and Tairua in the Coromandel Peninsula where we have been holidaying as a family for many years. Tairua is my home away from home!
Through my varied roles I have wide-ranging experience and understand the planning and resource management processes from a variety of perspectives. I can provide you with efficient, practical and uncomplicated advice, on time and within budget.
